The Role Of Government

First off, unless you read my page of what this blog is about, you’ll find this topic very different than what you may be used to seeing. Please check out that page before continuing.

You should be able to count the roles of government on a single hand:

1. Defense

2. Protection of the rights of its people

3. Maintenance of the highway defense system

4. and this ties in with 3, to regulate interstate commerce

5. To uphold contracts people voluntarily enter into

I don’t think it could be put more concisely than how Thomas Jefferson put it:

“A government big enough to supply you with everything you need, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have….The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases.”

New iPod Shuffle…

I originally thought this was a joke from The Onion. But it turns out Apple has indeed updated the iPod shuffle. My favorite iPod ever (seriously!) is hideous and I don’t want my controls on the headphones, and also…who cares if it talks. If I wanted to hear that, I would listen to Steven Hawking talk all day. When I get home, I am ordering back ups of the previous generation in case my ever fails. I will either use it some day or have a mint iPod shuffle for use years down the road.
